BIOGRAPHY
Kelsey Thomas is a British Lyrical soprano from Liverpool, currently studying for her Master's degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the tutelage of Yvonne Howard.
Kelsey has been praised for her "beautiful storytelling", "outstanding onstage energy" and "excellent supple and elastic tone".
Her Operatic roles include Sandrina in Mozart’s La Finta Giardinera, Maria Bertram in Mansfield Park, Marina in Wolf-Ferrari’s I Quattro Rusteghi, and Colombina in Le Donne Curiose (RNCM scenes). Kelsey has also performed as part of the Opera Chorus in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (2022) and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snegurochka (2023) with RNCM Opera. In 2023, she performed in the Chorus of Ligeti’s Requiem with RNCM Chamber Choir and Edvard Grieg Kor Ensemble as part of the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
On the concert stage, Kelsey is an experienced song recitalist, regularly performing in concerts across venues in England such as Buxton Pavilion Art’s Centre and Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room. Her repertoire includes songs by Schubert, Strauss, Wolf and Rachmaninoff, as well as the masters of French Mélodies. As a concert soloist, Kelsey has performed in major orchestral works including Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah and Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras. Kelsey is set to perform as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah at the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral this October.
In 2024, Kelsey became RNCM alumni after graduating from her undergraduate studies with a First Class Honours Degree. Kelsey then received a place at the RNCM for her Master's degree where she became the proud recipient of the Richard Newitt Fund, which currently supports the first year of her postgraduate study. Since starting this degree, Kelsey has been selected to sing in masterclasses with Rebecca Evans, Elizabeth Lewellyn and David Owen Norris.
As of autumn 2024, Kelsey was selected to join the prestigious RNCM Songsters, which are a group of accomplished singers and collaborative pianists at the conservatoire. Through this platform, Kelsey regularly performs in concerts across various UK venues, showcasing a diverse range of art song repertoire.
